Senior Scientist, Medicinal Chemistry

Position Summary:

We are seeking a talented medicinal chemist with excellent communication and collaboration skills and demonstrated experience working collaboratively in multi-disciplinary teams (spanning chemistry, biology, pharmacology, DMPK and toxicology). The successful candidate will be a key driver of med chem strategy and a critical contributor to projects, (with opportunities for project leadership), from inception through clinical candidate nomination and will mentor junior colleagues. Applicants should be well versed in drug design concepts and have demonstrated individual and team impact on medicinal chemistry projects.


Role and responsibility

Propose and independently drive the agreed medicinal chemistry strategy, as well as manage the chemistry team, to advance a program from Hit to Lead to a Development Candidate, in collaboration with other line functions

  • Contribute intellectually to chemistry project teams through data analysis, compound design and synthetic route optimization
  • Leading from the bench – candidate will spend a portion of their time in the lab enabling and impacting project progression by developing challenging chemistry that can be transferred to external partners
  • Manage external chemistry CRO resources
  • Work within mandated laboratory safety policies and maintain an electronic notebook to company standards.
  • Contribute to patent filings, publications and presentations


Required qualifications: 

  • PhD in organic chemistry, or related field with 5+ years, MS with 8+ years or BS with 11+ years of relevant experience
  • High level of creativity and productivity with strong synthetic problem-solving skills, synthetic methods and reactions mechanisms are required.
  • Demonstrated expertise in modern methods and technologies in synthetic organic chemistry
  • Demonstrated expertise in drug design to improve compound affinity, drug-likeness and DMPK/safety properties
  • Familiarity with structure and ligand based drug design concepts
  • Excellent communication skills
