Assoc. Scientist, Analytical Chemistry

We are seeking a highly collaborative, experienced, and motivated analytical chemist with a strong understanding of modern analytical methods and instrumentation and their application in small molecule drug discovery. Responsibilities:

In this lab-based position, you will apply your extensive hands-on experience to operate, maintain, and troubleshoot mass spectrometers (Agilent, Thermo) and high-performance liquid chromatography (Waters and Shimadzu) instruments.  Specific duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Conduct regular maintenance of analytical LCMS and preparative HPLC instruments, maintain instrument records & logs, manage instrument consumables, computer systems, and software.
  • Independently develop methods for analytical and preparatory reverse-phase, chiral, and achiral chromatography to support projects and platforms.
  • Provide technical guidance to synthetic chemistry colleagues, assist with and conduct purifications.
  • Provide technical input on analytical procedures and protocols at chemistry CRO.
  • Continuously assess analytical chemistry capabilities and provide recommendations for new technology to ensure industry standards are met or exceeded.
  • Coordinate with operations to schedule preventative maintenance and vendor service calls for maintenance and repair of instruments. 
  • Provide critical feedback to address issues and identify opportunities to improve processes and workflows.
  • Clearly and effectively communicate suggestions and potential issues to the team.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, including but not limited to:
    • Upload new compound registration data to our database, order compound source plates, and add powder samples to internal inventory.

Qualifications: 

  • MS in (analytical) chemistry and 5+ years of relevant employment experience, or BS in chemistry and 8+ years of relevant employment experience.
  • Hands-on experience developing methods, maintaining and troubleshooting LCMS and preparative HPLC systems, specifically Waters, Agilent, Shimadzu, and Thermo.
  • Knowledge of analytical software (e.g. ACD, MNova, Waters, Thermo, Agilent) to provide scientists with reports that can be documented in an electronic notebook (ELN).
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Adhere to a safe working environment and remain in compliance with safety policies and practices.
  • Self-motivated, team player with a strong work ethic and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Strong ability to engage and collaborate across departments with a problem-solving attitude and focus on delivery.
