Associate Principal Scientist, Medicinal Chemistry

Position summary:

We are seeking a highly motivated chemist with excellent leadership skills and extensive experience working in multi-disciplinary teams (spanning chemistry, biology, analytical sciences, pharmacology, DMPK and toxicology).  The successful candidate will lead projects from inception to clinical candidate, as well as mentor other project leads within their chemistry team, and help advance our targeted protein degradation (TPD) platform.  Applicants should be experienced drug hunters with a track record of innovation and creative problem solving.  The candidate will also manage collaborations and CRO resources as needed. This position will report to the VP of Chemistry and will have direct reports. 


Role and responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the success of chemistry aspects of the drug discovery teams through individual contributions, and through mentorship of direct reports/ junior colleagues.
  • Drive medicinal chemistry efforts simultaneously on multiple projects from the earliest stages through to clinical development.
  • Demonstrate expertise in drug design and medicinal chemistry strategies to improve drug-likeness, ADME/DMPK and safety properties.
  • Strong laboratory presence- leading from the bench.
  • Opportunities for project leadership
  • Accountable for providing guidance, direction and contributing to project delivery through the development of people.
  • Manage external chemistry CROs.


Required qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in synthetic organic chemistry with 8+ years industrial experience (or equivalent).
  • High level of creativity and productivity with strong synthetic problem-solving skills, synthetic methods and reactions mechanisms are required.
  • The candidate should have deep understanding of molecular properties and DMPK concepts.
  • Knowledge and experience in assessing and establishing intellectual property.
  • The candidate should have an established interest and passion for new modalities and targeted protein degradation.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills.

 

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience in custom library generation and experience with novel screening approaches.
